Student hostel with a hotel in Cracow, Górczewska Street
The investment consists of two buildings, which will ultimately serve as collective housing. The existing historic building, the Medics House, located at the intersection of Grzegórzecka and Śniadeckich streets, has been renovated, adapted, and transformed into a hotel.
In the depth of the plot, a new building has been added to the existing one, serving as a student dormitory. Both buildings, in addition to hotel and student rooms, include a wide range of common spaces for various purposes. Additionally, two commercial premises and an underground garage have been designed in the new building.
The project aimed to preserve the existing volume of the Medics House, its height, geometry, roof shape, and facade divisions with its composition and decoration. Inside, the historical spatial arrangement of corridors and elements of the historical decoration and furnishings of the building, especially the decoration of the Auditorium, have been preserved.
The new building was designed as a harmonious complement to the existing one, so as not to compete with the Medics House but to create an elegant backdrop for it. In scale, height, and character of the material solutions, it refers to the surrounding buildings. In reference to the historic building, it is a two-winged structure, but its facades have been broken and positioned at different angles, creating interesting perspectives from the inner courtyard. This breaks the linearity of the individual wings.
Both buildings will ultimately create a coherent quarter with an inner courtyard, serving as a place for integration of users of the entire complex
The design envisages 563 student rooms in the new building and 126 hotel rooms in the existing building.
