Office and service building located at Aleja Grunwaldzka in Gdańsk
The building embodies a humble approach to its surroundings. It stands amidst the historic architecture of Gdańsk – Oliwa, bordering several streets, each with its own distinct atmosphere.
Its architecture draws references from both the character of the urban tenement-lined Aleja Grunwaldzka and the street of Poczty Gdańskiej, evoking the ambiance of a suburban resort with old trees and the stretch of urban villas along it.
The new structure features an intimate courtyard - open in multiple directions to unique spaces between existing buildings.
The massing is divided into several parts, echoing the rhythm and scale of former plot divisions evident in the surroundings. While the facade facing Aleja Grunwaldzka boasts sloping roofs and classical rhythms typical of urban tenements, the sections of the facade facing Poczty Gdańskiej and Majkowskiego streets recall the wooden bay windows and porches characteristic of the intimate historic architecture found here.
To achieve diverse architectural character, the elevations are designed with various materials - from limestone panels to noble smooth plaster with mica additives to ceramic roof tiles. Maintaining a historicizing style, the building's facades contrast with the thoroughly contemporary character of the publicly accessible inner courtyard.
