Expansion and adaptation of the hall at Ożarowska Street in Warsaw
The design covers the extension and adaptation of the building located on Ożarowska street in Warsaw. The building is part of the “Koło” estate and was built based on Helena and Szymon Syrkus’ project in 1947-56. Both the one-storey hall and adjacent structure with a basement located on the investment site are listed and under the monument officer’s protection.
Following the investor’s guidelines the currently abandoned warehouse building will be adapted for a meditation centre with a living area for permanent residents and visitors. In order to meet requirements of a new function, there is an additional storey extension planned for the existing building. The new elements will be contemporary, simple and technical both in its form and finishing materials. This will help in emphasizing the division between existing renovated parts and newly designed or re-designed elements of the building.
On the ground floor next to the entrance area there is a spacious lobby designed. It is lit by the glazing strip of the top extension. On both sides in the lower parts there are social and miscellaneous areas located. The most important part of the building – “gompa” – is designed as an open space which is lit by strips of windows and a roof glazing. On two other levels there are residential rooms, technical and miscellaneous rooms located. There is a terrace proposed on the top of the smaller existing structure and part of the hall. There are some changes proposed to the area in front of the entrance and the strip of land south of the building.
