The design by Grupa 5 Architects, which won the 1st prize in an open competition entails the full refurbishment of the historical protected building of the main train station, extension of the train platforms and main station hall as well as a completely new design of the representative public plaza in front of the train station.
The station building itself is historically protected and therefore the design and construction process had to be prepared in close cooperation with the conservation authority.
