327 The Vistula Boulevards
Client: The Capital City of Warsaw
Organiser: The Society of Polish Town Planners (TUP)
Design: 2009
Area: 14ha
The greatest challenge ahead is turning the boulevards into public space, breathing new urban life into the area of the Vistula. It is the very character of the capital that offers a chance for a solution, as the inhabitants, who flow through Warsaw like the river itself, will be glad to turn these undeveloped as of yet areas into another hive of urban activity. Hence, the creation of nodal points, where boulevard space meets urban space, which are also the centre of activity in the boulevard.
Green walking space extends between the designed nodal points (squares). The inhabitants move from one square to another, one attraction to another, which whets their appetite for exploring the boulevards. The cultural life of the city centres around the squares, while the walking areas comprise recreational space.
