Client: Medical University of Warsaw - competition
Design: 2009
Net area: 71 000 m2
The proposed concept concerns the construction of a new paediatric hospital adjacent to the existing paediatric hospital of the Medical University of Warsaw. The design features hospital extension of a total net area of 71 000 m2.
Not only economic and technological factors but also psychological aspects relating to a stay in hospital were taken into consideration while creating the design.
The body of the building was divided into three independent units linked by a two-storey base.
The simple and logical functional layout of the building facilitates spatial orientation and prevents the patients from feeling “lost” inside a large-scale object.
A play area for the youngest children and their caretakers was sectioned off within the main entrance hall of the building.
The technological solutions proposed as part of the design were conducive to sustainable development and cost-effective exploitation of the building and included, among others, the use of sun collectors, heat pumps and photovoltaic cells.
