The following major decisions about the design were the result of an in-depth analysis of a vast array of frequently conflicting factors (ranging from available health technologies, functionality, space and design considerations to psychological aspects relating to a stay in hospital):
· location of the building on the site which allows to make clear and optimal use of the terrain
· simple and logical functional layout of the building which facilitates spatial orientation and ease of access inside a large-scale building
· clarity, democratic spirit and intimacy of the spatial solutions applied
· making use of the advantages of the location – opening up public sections of the hospital to existing greenery, which improves the psychological well-being of patients, staff and visitors
· cost-effectiveness of the functional solutions and materials
· possibility of easy further extension and conversion of the designed building
